Pixel Q+A: Natalie Ricker

This month's Q+A features our Social Media Director, Natalie Ricker. Read on to learn more about Natalie's contribution to the Pixel team, as well her biggest passions, in and outside of the office!

Give us a brief history of your time at Pixel Motion. What are your current duties/responsibilities?

I first started working at Pixel Motion in May 2010.  As an English Writing major, I applied to the company’s ad for a “Web Content Writer.”  Since that day, I was immersed into the digital marketing world and began optimizing site content for our clients.  I became the Senior Marketing Analyst and handled all SEO services for clients. Within the next couple years, I was promoted to oversee our social media department.   As director, I establish goals with the client and come up with a content strategy for their posts, as well as bring more awareness, engagement and sales through strategic social media marketing.

How would your co-workers describe your personality?

I think that they would say that I’m a positive person who cares about my work family.  I love goofing around with them, playing tricks, helping out with whatever I can, being there for someone to talk to, and overall keeping our work environment positive and fun.

What’s your favorite part about your job?

I really enjoy the advertising aspects of social media marketing.  Facebook gives so many options for people to bring awareness, engagement and more leads for their business.  As you can probably tell from my major, I am a fan of creative writing and enjoy the creative aspects of posting content for clients as well as testing which ad copy brings the best results.

What do you wish your clients would understand best about social media?

Social media isn’t just about posting or brand awareness.  With a solid content strategy and well-defined goals, you can accomplish a lot more than you think with this branch of marketing.  Social media is an outlet for you to showcase your personality, give your customers a reason to trust and like you,  allows you to stay connected with and retain current customers, attract and engage potential customers, and finally to drive traffic, leads and sales.  In order to advertise your business, there should be something worthy to brag about.  Distinguish yourself from your competition. Get creative, and then make sure you document these things and post on your social media. Social Media isn’t just for the Social Media Director to handle. It’s a relationship between both Director and client where we work together to advertise your brand in the most creative and effective way possible.

What trait do you value most in your co-workers?

I like that we are very team-oriented and that we can work very well together.  It helps that everyone is so easy-going, friendly, caring, and is there for you when you need them.  When we learn something new or interesting, we share it with our team so we can all grow in our fields together.

What are you most passionate about outside of work?

In this current state of my life, I would say I am passionate about renovating my home (I’m a newbie homeowner), going on beautiful hikes, binge watching “The Walking Dead”, and exploring the world with my hot husband.

What do you think social media will look like in the near future?

I believe that the future of social media, as well as digital and content marketing as a whole, will revolve more around story-telling. People don’t want to be sold to, they want to relate. This will be the art of future marketing and is something I am looking forward to.  Story-telling and writing are two of my passions and to be able to incorporate that more into our marketing strategies will be very exciting.
